Chickpea greatness
Just finished a Chickpea salad recipe. Which was easy and very delicious. It got me wanting to learn more about chickpeas.
Here is a run down about these magic pulses:
- One of the oldest cultivated vegetables, they have found evidence of people growing it 7000 years ago.
- Also called garbanzo bean, Indian pea, ceci bean, Bengal gram.
- Packed full of nutrition. Protein, phosphorus, calcium, magnesium, iron and zinc
- Thought to decrease cardiovascular Risks.
- Best of all delicious.
Chickpea Salad
Ingredients
- 1 can Chickpeas or a cup of Dried Chickpeas
- 2 Tomatoes
- 1 can of tuna
- 1 small onion
- Black olives (optional)
- Oil, lemon juice and salt (to taste)
Instructions
- Wash them with plenty of water to remove the juice from the can.
- Soak them in plenty of cold water over night.
- In a pan add the chickpeas to a small amount of water, bring to the boil. Reduce the heat and simmer for 5 - 10 minutes.
- Drain off the excess water then fry the chickpeas for five minutes. Be careful not to let them burn.
- Once cooked set them aside to cool before mixing through.
- Chop the tomatoes and onion in small pieces and drain the tuna.
- In a large serving bowl mix the tomato, onion, drained tuna and chickpeas.
- Drizzle over the oil, squeeze of lemon and salt to taste. Lastly top with black olives.
Hints
If you forget to soak dried chickpeas over night you can easily use boiling water and leave then for 2-3 hours instead.
Green peppers, cucumber or lettuce can add lovely color to this salad.

I have to say, while looking through hundreds of blogs daily, the theme of this blog is different (for all the proper reasons). If you do not mind me asking, what’s the name of this theme or would it be a especially designed affair? It’s significantly better compared to the themes I use for some of my blogs.
Hi thanks.
It is a http://www.artofblog.com/33-a-dream-to-host/ theme but we have played with it a little and will continue to play with it.
I like the sound of your mini cheese stuffed tomatoes
